People should ‘make a sensible choice’ if their priority is to spend Christmas with their families, a Health Minister has said.

Gillian Keegan told Sky’s Kay Burley that individuals should ‘take a different approach’ if they want to ‘make it through to Christmas Day’.

Her comments come after England’s Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty expressed caution about festive plans.

"More signs" Alberta putting COVID-19 wave "behind us" health minister says | FULL

There are more signs that the province of Alberta is putting the COVID-19 BA.2 wave behind them, according to Health Minister Jason Copping.

Copping made the statement at the provincial weekly COVID-19 update with chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw.

Over the period between May 10 to May 16 the average PCR test positivity rate dropped about three per cent, to 20. It marks the third week in a row the province saw positivity rates drop.

Wastewater samples in most centres are also declining, according to Copping. Places like Lethbridge, Edmonton, Calgary and Red Deer are still showing significant amounts of virus circulating but are still trending down.

Dr. Hinshaw announced that while the province was seeing declining hospital rates there were still 55 deaths related to COVID-19 over that time period.
